Winch Madness

This video is a year old but I don’t kurr none!  Why? If you’ve already watched it then it’s definitely worth seeing again and, if you haven’t? You’re in for a treat.  Cheers to pixelworkers for shooting/producing/editing this gem and Justice for the soundtrack.

Two-and-a-half thousand frames per second

Check out this gorgeous slow-motion high-definition footage David Coiffier took of a rugby match – with fire-breather! – (0:50) a liquid filled koosh (1:50) and a jello cube (2:00-end).  All the video was captured at 1000 fps except for the last shot (the jello cube) which was taken at 2,500 fps. Gorgeous stuff.

The Persistence Hunt

My favorite moment from the excellent ‘Life of Mammals’ series presented by Sir David Attenborough. It shows how the San people of the Kalahari desert overtake their prey by out-running them down to complete exhaustion.  The San are the last people on earth who still hunt this way.  Enjoy.

You can read more about persistence hunting in the excellent ‘Born to Run’ by Christopher McDougall.

Popcorn Popping at 6200 frames per second

Even at that speed the action is pretty quick. The strange part is that it appears to take off before the kernel ‘fluffs’, I wonder why that’s the case…

Also, now I’m hungry.

Really diggin’ on biologicalcomponent‘s latest work, it reminds me of playing Virtual Boy for the first time in Lechmere back in the mid-90s.
