'Dancing in the rain' by Yasemin Kahraman

We have Yasemin Kahraman to thank for this fantastic photograph of sparrows enjoying the rain in a field of wheat.

Pigeon Puzzle

'Shadow Birds' by Alexei Bednij

I love how none of the shadows (or birds for that matter) are touching in this photograph by Alexei Bednij.

In the deep blue

'In the deep blue' by Gil Gautier

This great photograph by Gil Gautier looks like it was taken on an alien world.

Realm of the Deer

'Realm of the Deer' by Alex Saberi

That’s a scene straight out of a Miyazaki flick.  We have Alex Saberi to thank for this wonderful photograph. Cheers!

Toucan Barbet

Toucan Barbet (Semnornis ramphastinus)

Behold! The toucan barbet (semnornis ramphastinus)! It’s a highly social bird of the genus Semnornis that lacks strong sexual dimorphism in their plumage.  That’s just a fancy way of saying both sexes have bright colors as opposed to just the males.

These images are from two very talented Norwegian photographers: Ole C. Salomonsen and Øystein Lunde Ingvaldsen.  If you’d like to see (lots) more be sure to check out their respective aurora-specific galleries here and here.  If you want to see the northern lights in motion be sure to check out this video.

I’ve got to make a point to visit Norway to see these in person at some point before I die.
