Mark, I am your fellow actor.

It feels very strange having the fourth-wall shattered on such an iconic image from your childhood. See eleven more excellent behind-the-scenes photos from the filming of The Empire Strikes Back over at Vanity Fair.

Fractal Flamingos

©2010 Bobby Haas

“Photographer Bobby Haas had been taking hundreds of pictures of the birds from a helicopter in Yucatan, Mexico. But just as the helicopter turned to leave, Mr Haas looked over his shoulder one last time. It was then that he noticed the flamingos had formed an incredible shape.”

A Show, A Comet, A Storm

NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day for Febuary 5, 2007

Comet McNaught (kinda sounds like a friend of Buzz Lightyear, no?) passes between a fireworks show and an incoming storm in Perth, Austrailia.  As seen on the reliably excellent Astronomy Picture of the Day by NASAClick through for a high-res version.

Straight up Wallin

Why, oh why, couldn’t I have been born with the gift to be a terrific illustrator? Instead, I am forced to search the interwebs for artists such as Andree Wallin. Wallin uses just the right blend of traditional illustration and oil painting with digital retouching for my tastes. Plus, his works include a lot of robots, demons, and general sci-fi carnage, plus a few landscapes for good measure. Something for everyone! Full gallery at the link below.
