Rogier van der Zwaag gave Nobody Beats The Drum‘s electro floor-filler, Grindin’, the visual accompaniment it deserved. Want to know how he did it? You’re in luck: just click here.

IMPACTIST (a.k.a. Kelly Meador & Daniel Elwing) are, “a directing duo with a diverse background in film production, design, animation, music, and the fine arts.” Their music reminds me a lot of Tycho and Ulrich Schnauss but is wholly unique in it’s whimsy, playfulness and minimalism. It’s very very nice, really. The little promotional videos they create to highlight what they are up to are a treat as well; I especially love how they combine ‘crunchy’ mediums like Super 8 with exacting colorful and modern geometric animations.

Mike Crozier spent some time interning at Stockholm design house, SNASK, during which he produced this stop-motion promotional video. No special effects, no tricks, just 1846 individual photos taken over the course of four days then stitched together. Well done, sir.
P.S. Just a heads up: there’s a brief NSFW moment at 1:01 so just make sure the boss isn’t looking over your shoulder, OK?

“Photographer Bobby Haas had been taking hundreds of pictures of the birds from a helicopter in Yucatan, Mexico. But just as the helicopter turned to leave, Mr Haas looked over his shoulder one last time. It was then that he noticed the flamingos had formed an incredible shape.”

I know I’ve been on a Gobelins kick recently but, with content like this available, I’m sure you don’t mind.
These four films – Monstera Deliciosa, Le Lac Gelé, Fenrir and Dodudindon – were shown at the start of each session of Annecy 2009 and created by students finishing their second year at Gobelins. It’s crazy to think they can create films of this caliber already so I’m looking forward to what they’ll produce during the remainder of their time at school and in the years that follow.

Facts feed brains, that’s a fact.
Sean Pecknold directed this promotional video for the BBC Knowledge Channel that will remind you of just how much you don’t know and how gratifying it is to learn new things. Ain’t existence marvelous?

Jason Levesque (a.k.a. ‘stuntkid’) is a fantastic illustrator with a trippy aesthetic I adore. See more on either his website or deviantArt page.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Tor Even Mathisen took some great time lapse sequences of the Aurora Borealis show in Tromsø, Norway and then stitched them together into a video and backed it with the ethereal music of Per Wollen and Silje Beate Nilssen. Dim the lights for this one.

Comet McNaught (kinda sounds like a friend of Buzz Lightyear, no?) passes between a fireworks show and an incoming storm in Perth, Austrailia. As seen on the reliably excellent Astronomy Picture of the Day by NASA. Click through for a high-res version.

Will someone take this animated short and turn it into a feature-length movie, please? The ‘transition’ moment at 0:31 should be enough to sell anyone.
Chaman was created by Théo Boubounelle, Chloé Bury, Jean Baptiste Cumont, Claire Fauvel and Vincent Nghiem, students from – no surprise here – french ‘School-of-Awesome’, Gobelins, to promote the 2010 Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
Taking a trip out to experience Annecy is definitely something I’d like to do at least once before I die.
