We’ve featured the work of Kelly Meador and Daniel Elwing (a.k.a. impactist) on the site before so it was no surprise when we found out this little astronomy-themed vignette came from them. Per the impactist M.O. they handle everything from the visuals to the music. The latter can be found for purchase here at the super-affordable rates of $1 a single or $3 for an EP (my personal favorites are the Last Heist and Color Fields & Wagon Wheels EPs). When you support art at reasonable prices you get more art at reasonable prices (sometimes for free). OK, enough with the soapbox. Enjoy your weekend, friends!
P.S. Thanks for all the fantastic submissions that have been coming in lately, we’re working our way through them!

We’re absolutely loving Ori Toor‘s final illustration project from the Shenkar School of Engineering and Design. He describes it as a ‘stream of consciousness animation’ that was pieced together frame-by-frame in flash sans any script or prior planning. It’s just marvelous, fluid and über-trippy. Full screen and headphones are a must folks. Tunes by Animal Collective.
A big thanks goes to Aaron Smith for another great submission. Cheers!

“It’s a quiet heart – a quiet heart like a car alarm.
Hollow chest, it’s a hollow chest, on a solemn quest to bring a guest into your arms…”
Tyler Vanston (he sent in Rippled last week) passed along this medieval-tinged, ethereal music video that Stray Angel Films and Young Replicant produced for Hooray For Earth. It’s directed by Alex Takacs and Joe Nankin with some fantastic costume design by Lauren Bradley. Enjoy!
Thanks, Tyler!

Venessa wrote in to suggest a video by Matthias Hoegg about ants experiencing an evolutionary leap forward via the ingestion of an unnamed elicit substance left carelessly by some partiers on holiday. It’s good! You should check it out! Anyways, I got to watching some of the other stuff by Mr. Hoegg and decided to post this video – entitled ‘Thursday’ – instead. He calls it a ‘love story’ which I guess it is but it’s told in such a unique way that, in my mind at least, it defies such simplistic and broad categorization. I’m particularly fond of the film’s visual style – the best descriptor I could come up with was ‘delicious’ – it’s packed full of simple, slick animation, loads of rich colors and at times carries a very E-Boy kind of vibe (which is very good as far as vibes go). The Dope Sheet has a great interview with Mattias about his inspiration and process so definitely head on over if you’re interested in that sort of thing. It should also be mentioned that Marian Mentrup contributed some pretty fantastic sound design to the project so do yourself a favor and grab some headphones when you get around to watching it. Enjoy!
Thanks for the heads-up, Vanessa!

Some hand-drawn animated psychedelia courtesy of Chad VanGaalen (remember that rad video he put together for J. Mascis?) for his futuristic organic alter-ego Black Mold. Good stuff, folks!
A big thanks to J. Sherm for the heads-up!

“I’m frozen to the bones, I am
A soldier on my own, I don’t know the way;
I’m riding up the heights of shame.
I’m waiting for the call, the hand on the chest;
I’m ready for the fight, and fate…”
The word ‘epic’ springs immediately to mind. Do me a favor? Don’t watch this until you’ve got some time set aside to chill, dim the lights and don some headphones cause this shit is dope and deserves your undivided attention. Tunes and direction courtesy of Yoann Lemoine (a.k.a. Woodkid) with cinematography by Mathieu Plainfosse and post-production via OneMore Prod in Paris. Woodkid’s IRON EP is available now on iTunes. Enjoy!

“Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome.” –Isaac Asimov
‘Fallen’ was conceived/directed/animated by Wolfram Kampffmeyer and Sascha Geddert. David Christiansen and Sebastian Nozon pitched in their talents as well, handling the music/sound and compositing duties respectively.

“It is the harmony of the diverse parts, their symmetry, their happy balance; in a word it is all that introduces order, all that gives unity, that permits us to see clearly and to comprehend at once both the ensemble and the details. It is through science that we prove, but through intuition that we discover.” –Jules Henri Poincaré
Symmetry was created by Everynone as part of an ongoing collaboration with radiolab. A big thanks goes to Evan Pearson for the heads-up. Everynone’s Vimeo page is chock-full of goodies, btdubs.

“Painstakingly animated frame by frame, the piece is all shot in camera, by real people, in the real world, using long exposure techniques.”
Darcy Prendergast and the talented folks at OH YEAH WOW composed this chill, contemplative (and trippy) music video for All India Radio using long exposure light paintings. Serving Suggestion: lights dimmed and headphones on with phasers set to maximum mellow. Enjoy!
A big thanks goes to Tyler Vanston for the submission, cheers!

This video by Pogo, a.k.a. Nick Bertke, was composed entirely of chords and vocal samples taken directly from Disney’s 1951 animated classic Alice in Wonderland. After posting it up on the ‘tubes Nick garned a fair amount of attention which lead to loads of cool work for high-profile clients like Pixar. It’s good times all around so grab those headphones and bliss out for a while…
Thanks for sending this in, Jani Saarelainen! It should also be mentioned that Pogo’s entire music catalog is available via a name-your-price storefront. He’s even cool enough to accept ‘$0.00’ but if you’ve got a couple of bucks why not send it his way? This is the type of behavior we should be encourage, wouldn’t you agree?
