Old Fangs

“Are you sure about this? What about that? Do you remember that? Do you know where we’re going at least? We’re not lost, are we?”

‘Old Fangs’ is a short film directed by Adrien Merigeau and Alan Holly that was produced at Cartoon Saloon in Kilkenny, Ireland. It has won a slew of awards and, after watching it, you’ll understand why.  Lots of heavy themes here – kind of reminds me of Gauguin’s Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?.

Squircle Zoom

Don Whitaker wrote in to suggest a video for the site he made entitled ‘Surfing the 4th Dimension’. It’s some pretty high-concept stuff built with a complex ‘slit scan’ technique which is then modified with a custom Processing script and backed with some spacey tunes interspersed with some old dude talking about LSD to boot. It was such an intriguing idea I decided to look through some of his other videos and found this – attracted by the word ‘Squircle’ no doubt (try saying it out loud “squirrr-cull”) – and decided to post it instead of his suggestion. Was this uncouth? Is this not done? I’m just a fan of fractals, OK? Anyways, speaking of fractals, he just made this test video a scant three days ago so I want to encourage this kind of behavior. More please, Don. Oh, and we’ll be friends forever if you make a fractal video set to this tune. #mildpitchforever

Customtone

Astrophonica commissioned Emilski & Nick Duggins of UTILE to put together a video for their upcoming Fracture & Neptune retrospective LP. The abstract, hand-drawn psychedelic visuals are a fitting compliment to the cosmic, spaced-out drum ‘n bass sound of ‘Customtone’ and we’re confident you’ll dig it as much as we did. To hear more from the album head on over to Fracture & Neptune’s soundcloud account (my personal favorite is their bass-heavy remix of Stu Haxton’s ‘Miss Sunrise’). Grab those headphones and enjoy!

Grown Ocean

“In that dream I’m as old as the mountains, still is starlight reflected in fountains.
Children grown on the edge of the ocean; kept like jewelry kept with devotion
In that dream moving slow through the morning…”

More goodness from Sub Pop, this time for Fleet Foxes’ nostalgia-rambler ‘Grown Ocean’. The quick-cutting clutter of casually captured documentary footage compliments the ethereal cadence of the tune so well that I found myself blissfully zoning out each time I watched it. Maybe you’ll like it, too? Their new album, ‘Helplessness Blues’ drops on May 3rd, 2011 which you can conveniently pre-order on either CD or LP here.

Expectation

Loving this Clemens Habicht directed music video for Tame Impala that was filmed entirely with a 360° camera. The proceedings shift from ‘cool’ to ‘magical’ at about half-way through when night falls and the flares come out. Diggin’ the tune, too (they describe their sound as ‘psychedelic hypno-groove melodic rock’)  – it’s good-times all-around friends.

P.S. Mr. Habicht also directed the ‘Skeleton Boy’ video tizmatti posted back in November.

Jesus2000

In honor of ‘good’ Friday I thought I’d post this 100% historically accurate animated short on the life of our Lord and savior, Jesus of Nazareth. JESUS2000 was produced in 2009 at WIZZ with concept & art-direction by CRCR (the minds behind TODOR & PETRU), sound design by Philippe Valette with electro jamz composed by R-Ash. Enjoy!

The video above was submitted by Steven Smith for the J Dilla (RIP) joint, ‘Geekdown’ and we absolutely love it. Hopefully there’s lots more like it from other creative fans on the way.

A huge, massive thanks goes to one of our readers, Victoria, for the heads-up on this one – CHEERS!

Innocence

“Neurosis only attaches itself to fertile ground where it can flourish.
The thrill of fear – thought I’d never admit it – the thrill of fear: now greatly enjoyed with courage.”

It’s a Björk two-for Tuesday! This particular video was directed and animated by Dimitri Stankowicz (currently employed at Passion Pictures) as an entry into the official ‘Innocence’ video contest. Dimitri’s submission didn’t win – he was one of the ten runners up – but was lucky enough to be included on the official Voltaic DVD. We’re diggin’ it.

The Game

Nick Losi wrote in with some excellent news! Will Sweeney (you know, that guy) created another music video, this time for Das Pop. It’s positively delicious – enjoy!

Oh! I almost forgot! Nick also sent along a link (from the excellent image blog 50 Watts) to some story boards and sketches Will created during production so if you’re into process be sure to give it a look-see. Thanks, Nick!
