From the looks of it ‘Knowing’ is a pretty awful movie – I haven’t seen it mind you but, in my experience, the hive mind is fairly reliable about these sorts of things. Anyways, so I’m on the ‘tubes and come across this video – created by musicaeternal – that combines Björk’s ethereal ‘Batabib’ with some scenes from the flick and it all works together rather well. Alex Proyas sure knows how to make some tasty visuals.

“Destino is unique in that its production originally began in 1945, 58 years before its eventual completion. The project was a collaboration between American animator Walt Disney and Spanish painter Salvador Dalí, and features music written by Mexican songwriter Armando Dominguez and performed by Dora Luz…more”
During production of Fantasia 2000 Walt Disney’s nephew, Roy, found some storyboards and a scant 17 seconds of animation that were created by Disney and Dali and decided to resurrect the long dormant project. If you’re interested, head on over to Destino’s wikipedia entry to read lots more.
A big thanks goes to kiefer printy for passing this gem along…cheers!

“We’d been looking into an old 3D technique called “Anaglyph”, which is the familiar red and cyan version of 3d that you used to get on the back of cereal boxes. The more we looked at various images that used this technique, the more we fell in love with the colours and decided that they should drive the aesthetic of the piece…The song is full of light and shade; with euphoric melodies and skipping glitchy beats. It seemed to us that themes of ‘duality’ ran through both the song and our visual idea.”
Absolutely loving this music video BISON (a.k.a. Owen Silverwood and Dave Bullivant) put together for the Four Tet remix of ‘Vessel’ by Jon Hopkins (released by Domino and available now on iTunes & AmazonMP3). It’s ethereal, contemplative and gorgeous stuff – perfect for some rainy-day chillage. Big ups to Justine Josephs for the fantastic styling and Claire Meehan for lending her dance expertise, the two in tandem are a powerful combination. Cheers!
P.S. If you’re into dance, near Des Moines on Friday and want to get in one last great party before the Apocalypse then stop by Glaza Studio for End of Days – it looks like it’s going to be a pretty rad time.

I came across this little gem last night when I was browsing around the Vimeo Staff pics (one of the mountain-born tributaries that regularly flow down into rivière de La Tripatorium™) and knew it had to be posted soon as possible. Soon after, I checked the submissions and found out that one of our readers, Dan Allen, had send it in that very same day. KISMET!
On the Mueller scale of trippiness – as I’m sure you recall from your third grade earth-science lessons – ‘No Brain’ rates at a respectable 9.2835/10 which puts it in league with such favorites as The Music Scene, Combination Spawns and The Parachute Ending. In other words: shit is dope.
You know the drill: volume up, lights dimmed, headphones on and full-screen. Oh! Right! The credits! Direction by Fleur & Manu, production DIVISION Paris and post production by MATHEMATIC. Enjoy!

The first CD I purchased with my own money was a used copy of Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers, an album which instantly became (and still remains) one of my all-time favorites. I’m happy to report that they’re still making awesome music and hiring the right kind of folks to craft their videos. Speaking of which, ‘Another World’ features direction and visuals by Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall. Enjoy!

We’ve featured the work of Kelly Meador and Daniel Elwing (a.k.a. impactist) on the site before so it was no surprise when we found out this little astronomy-themed vignette came from them. Per the impactist M.O. they handle everything from the visuals to the music. The latter can be found for purchase here at the super-affordable rates of $1 a single or $3 for an EP (my personal favorites are the Last Heist and Color Fields & Wagon Wheels EPs). When you support art at reasonable prices you get more art at reasonable prices (sometimes for free). OK, enough with the soapbox. Enjoy your weekend, friends!
P.S. Thanks for all the fantastic submissions that have been coming in lately, we’re working our way through them!

We’re absolutely loving Ori Toor‘s final illustration project from the Shenkar School of Engineering and Design. He describes it as a ‘stream of consciousness animation’ that was pieced together frame-by-frame in flash sans any script or prior planning. It’s just marvelous, fluid and über-trippy. Full screen and headphones are a must folks. Tunes by Animal Collective.
A big thanks goes to Aaron Smith for another great submission. Cheers!

“Traditional Bajau cosmology - a syncretism of animism and Islam - reveals a complex relationship with the ocean, which for them is a multifarious and living entity. There are spirits in currents and tides, in coral reefs and mangroves…more”
I absolutely love this photograph James Morgan took of Enal, a young Bajau in Indonesia, playing with Wangi Wangi, his pet shark, that he keeps in a pen underneath his stilted house in Wangi, Indonesia. Read more about the Bajau, the last true nomads of the sea, and see loads more fantastic pictures over at James Morgan’s site.

“It’s a quiet heart – a quiet heart like a car alarm.
Hollow chest, it’s a hollow chest, on a solemn quest to bring a guest into your arms…”
Tyler Vanston (he sent in Rippled last week) passed along this medieval-tinged, ethereal music video that Stray Angel Films and Young Replicant produced for Hooray For Earth. It’s directed by Alex Takacs and Joe Nankin with some fantastic costume design by Lauren Bradley. Enjoy!
Thanks, Tyler!

Venessa wrote in to suggest a video by Matthias Hoegg about ants experiencing an evolutionary leap forward via the ingestion of an unnamed elicit substance left carelessly by some partiers on holiday. It’s good! You should check it out! Anyways, I got to watching some of the other stuff by Mr. Hoegg and decided to post this video – entitled ‘Thursday’ – instead. He calls it a ‘love story’ which I guess it is but it’s told in such a unique way that, in my mind at least, it defies such simplistic and broad categorization. I’m particularly fond of the film’s visual style – the best descriptor I could come up with was ‘delicious’ – it’s packed full of simple, slick animation, loads of rich colors and at times carries a very E-Boy kind of vibe (which is very good as far as vibes go). The Dope Sheet has a great interview with Mattias about his inspiration and process so definitely head on over if you’re interested in that sort of thing. It should also be mentioned that Marian Mentrup contributed some pretty fantastic sound design to the project so do yourself a favor and grab some headphones when you get around to watching it. Enjoy!
Thanks for the heads-up, Vanessa!
