blackhole

Whoa. This one is weird. And wonderful. And trippy. And bursting with colo– well it’s a lot of things, OK? ‘blackhole’ is definitely one of those music videos you want to watch full-screen with the headphones on and the volume up. Both the visuals and the tune were created by super-talented arjanM. Prepare for a bask in the bizarre, friends!

Big ups to IntellJ for sending this fantastic little suggestion our way! Cheers!

Shinkansen ver.2

Daihei Shibata – the brilliant mind behind The Light of Life – documented a ride between Shinosaka and Tokyo on the Japanese Shinkansen high-speed train network. After choosing a nice tune from Van She to add some atmosphere Daihei mirrored the footage along the horizontal axis, gave it a thoughtful prune with some well timed edits and voilà: he’s finished. The whole affair is decidedly chill. We approve.

Also on The Tripatorium™: If you dig this then don’t hesitate to click here for another electronic-music soaked train ride courtesy of none-other-than Mr. Michel Gondry himself.

Love Hits The Fan

I was checking out the tumblr of one of our regular readers/contributors, Britlee, a couple nights back when I came across this video that Rocco Pezzella, Andrea Staiano and Francesco Castellani directed and produced for the London based upbeat french-house-filter-disco-sample-mashing electro outfit, Phonat. Lots of nice abstract high definition visuals that twitch, flash and evolve in step with the uplifting party tunes. Good times all around folks; enjoy!

Poisson Vert

Rogier van der Zwaag and Nobody Beats the Drum have teamed up again – y’all remember Grindin’, right? – to delicious effect. Headphones and full-screened HD is probably the most efficient way to ingest this strange, stop-motion journey through the forest backed with catchy electro-synth soaked grooves. Get up on it like this.

Fun Fact: This video was financed by the Dutch TAX fund and took over seven nights of shooting in the forests near Putten to complete. Click here if you’re interested in a behind-the-scenes peek of how it all came together.

Space Time

Know what’s kind of a bummer? That this music video is only one minute and fifty-three seconds long. Journeys down the wormhole should be at least three to four minutes long at a minimum – like this little gem for instance. Anyways, the backing tune is from Delta Heavy and the visuals were created by, well, I have no idea actually. If you know who directed/animated the attached video please drop us a line and we’ll update the post to give proper credit where it is due.

Cheers to l3mon for the suggestion. Thanks!

Moonbeam Rider

More Steve Smith, more Slugabed, more Ninja Tune. All good things, friends. Ensure HD is on, click full screen, don the headphones and bask in the ever-shifting strangeness.

Neckbrace

Chris wrote in again (he’s the kind fellow who sent us Wanderlust and Mykonos) with this wonderfully bizarre E*VAX directed bird-tastic music video for RATATAT. We love it. Maybe you will, too?

Thanks again, Chris!

Partitura 001

“Inspired by the studies of artists such as Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Oscar Fischinger and Norman McLaren, the images generated by Partitura are based on a precise and coherent system of relationships between various types of geometries. The main characteristic of this system is its horizontal linear structure, like that of a musical score. It is along this linear environment that the different classes of abstract elements are created and evolve over time according to the sound…more

It’s Saturday night! What are y’all up to? Can I make a suggestion? Watch the attached video on the largest, highest resolution screen you’ve got and run the sound through the best speakers/headphones available. Enjoy!

Oh! Right! The credits! Partitura is an ongoing collaborative software project between Abstract Birds and Quayola that’s built in vvvv. Tunes by Telefon Tel Aviv.

True Loves (Cyriak)

We featured the original music video for ‘True Loves’ by Hooray For Earth not too long ago so we were pleasantly surprised when Mark wrote in to inform us that Cyriak recently completed a video for the Cereal Spiller’s remix of the same tune. Shit’s dope folks, what else would you expect from Sir Cyriak himself? If you’ve got an HDTV to watch this on I heartily recommend you dig out whatever cable/dongle you need to get your computer hooked up to it cause this video is perfect for viewing on a comfy couch in a darkened room with the sound cranked. Enjoy!

Cheers, Mark! Thanks for the heads up!

Quantum Leap

Take an audio/visual synced trip through the wormhole via the visual stylings of Thomas de Rijk and the bass-heavy glitch-synth sounds of Slugabed. Full screened/headphones for this one folks – might as well crank the volume while you’re getting them plugged in, too – and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the feline-deity who sustains us all.

Thomas has lots of other cool, trippy shit on his site, why not head on over?

Kaleido-Lapse

Colorful time lapse photography + Björk + Ratatat * Kaleidoscopic filtering = Some trippy business. Full-screen this bitch and bask in the vibes, friends.

Well done, RebootYourComputer, well done.

“As his planet boils in the glow of a cascading Tesseract a young femto-panda named David Xenon makes a brave attempt to warn the galaxy…”

Holy shit! This is awesome!  Tony Comley is the chap responsible for putting together this super-rad music video for Gameshow Outpatient. Serving suggestion: full screened, lights dimmed and headphones on; give it your undivided attention folks.

Gameshow Outpatient was cool enough to make the EP that this tune comes from – We Go Dream Team – available as a free download. Thanks again for the free stuff, internet!

Civilization

“Lost in the silence, they bow to the call of the east;
Tantalized and seduced by the demons released.
Ears to the ground by the name of the merciless guide,
Onto the fire that burns in the all seeing eye.”

The latest music video from Justice, directed by Edouard Salier, is just what you’d expect: awesome. Enjoy!

Play

The unique visual style of Studio Shelter paired with the feel-good, uplifting, summer’s-here sound of Cassette Schwarzenegger is a winning combination. The whole video is great but I’m especially fond of the more abstract sequences (like the ones at 1:16 and 3:24). It’s good times all around folks – enjoy!

Vessel

“We’d been looking into an old 3D technique called “Anaglyph”, which is the familiar red and cyan version of 3d that you used to get on the back of cereal boxes. The more we looked at various images that used this technique, the more we fell in love with the colours and decided that they should drive the aesthetic of the piece…The song is full of light and shade; with euphoric melodies and skipping glitchy beats. It seemed to us that themes of ‘duality’ ran through both the song and our visual idea.”

Absolutely loving this music video BISON (a.k.a. Owen Silverwood and Dave Bullivant) put together for the Four Tet remix of ‘Vessel’ by Jon Hopkins (released by Domino and available now on iTunes & AmazonMP3). It’s ethereal, contemplative and gorgeous stuff – perfect for some rainy-day chillage. Big ups to Justine Josephs for the fantastic styling and Claire Meehan for lending her dance expertise, the two in tandem are a powerful combination. Cheers!

P.S. If you’re into dance, near Des Moines on Friday and want to get in one last great party before the Apocalypse then stop by Glaza Studio for End of Days – it looks like it’s going to be a pretty rad time.

No Brain

I came across this little gem last night when I was browsing around the Vimeo Staff pics (one of the mountain-born tributaries that regularly flow down into rivière de La Tripatorium™) and knew it had to be posted soon as possible. Soon after, I checked the submissions and found out that one of our readers, Dan Allen, had send it in that very same day. KISMET!

On the Mueller scale of trippiness – as I’m sure you recall from your third grade earth-science lessons – ‘No Brain’ rates at a respectable 9.2835/10 which puts it in league with such favorites as The Music Scene, Combination Spawns and The Parachute Ending. In other words: shit is dope.

You know the drill: volume up, lights dimmed, headphones on and full-screen. Oh! Right! The credits! Direction by Fleur & Manu, production DIVISION Paris and post production by MATHEMATIC. Enjoy!

Another World

The first CD I purchased with my own money was a used copy of Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers, an album which instantly became (and still remains) one of my all-time favorites. I’m happy to report that they’re still making awesome music and hiring the right kind of folks to craft their videos. Speaking of which, ‘Another World’ features direction and visuals by Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall. Enjoy!

Alice

This video by Pogo, a.k.a. Nick Bertke, was composed entirely of chords and vocal samples taken directly from Disney’s 1951 animated classic Alice in Wonderland. After posting it up on the ‘tubes Nick garned a fair amount of attention which lead to loads of cool work for high-profile clients like Pixar. It’s good times all around so grab those headphones and bliss out for a while…

Thanks for sending this in, Jani Saarelainen! It should also be mentioned that Pogo’s entire music catalog is available via a name-your-price storefront. He’s even cool enough to accept ‘$0.00’ but if you’ve got a couple of bucks why not send it his way? This is the type of behavior we should be encourage, wouldn’t you agree?

Customtone

Astrophonica commissioned Emilski & Nick Duggins of UTILE to put together a video for their upcoming Fracture & Neptune retrospective LP. The abstract, hand-drawn psychedelic visuals are a fitting compliment to the cosmic, spaced-out drum ‘n bass sound of ‘Customtone’ and we’re confident you’ll dig it as much as we did. To hear more from the album head on over to Fracture & Neptune’s soundcloud account (my personal favorite is their bass-heavy remix of Stu Haxton’s ‘Miss Sunrise’). Grab those headphones and enjoy!

Jesus2000

In honor of ‘good’ Friday I thought I’d post this 100% historically accurate animated short on the life of our Lord and savior, Jesus of Nazareth. JESUS2000 was produced in 2009 at WIZZ with concept & art-direction by CRCR (the minds behind TODOR & PETRU), sound design by Philippe Valette with electro jamz composed by R-Ash. Enjoy!
