New Machine For Living

To spread the word about their latest synthesizer – The Sub Phatty – Moog asked Flying Lotus and lilfuchs to combine their talents on a one-and-a-half minute promo video. Their last collaboration yielded Zodiac Shit, one of my all-time favorite music videos, and the attached is a similar dose of colorful, trippy eye-candy. It’s a treat, y’all…enjoy!

Cheers to Julian for sending this one our way...thanks!

Putty Boy Strut

Been itchin’ to post this one since last Wednesday when I first saw it pop-up in Mr. Lotus’ twitter feed. He’s got a new album, Until The Quiet Comes, set to drop on October 1st and made the brilliant decision to hire Sir Cyriak to create a video to promote it’s release.

It’s a true collaboration and exactly what you’d expect when creatives of this caliber combine their unique skill sets. The tune itself fuses together two of Flying Lotus’ fortés: sterile, machine-pulsed-and-stripped-down beats and his trademark spacey, rambling, warm-and-jazzy tones. Cyriak takes that contrast and runs with it, creating a world populated with regiments of single-purpose robots that is forever changed after one of them spontaneously evolves, trading in its initial programming for a more familiar-to-us set of survival-of-the-fittest, kill-or-be-killed instincts. The video escalates in typical Cyriak fractal-fashion, progressing in complexity from the micro to the macro until everything-is-everything and then back again. Word.

It’s a treat, y’all. ENJOY!

FYI: Both our Flying Lotus and Cyriak feeds are packed with fantastic videos.

Tokyo Slo-Mode

I’ve always wanted to travel to Japan. From my perspective as a westerner it seems as if going there would the closest I could get to visiting another planet without first having to leave this one. I can remember being in middle school during the early 90s and setting an alarm on Friday night so I wouldn’t forget to wake up and watch the Saturday Anime block on the Sci Fi network. Those mornings were formative for me: I’d be up before the sun, slack-jawed-and-in-awe in front of the tee-vee as my brain booted itself into consciousness on such audio/visual feasts as Record of the Lodoss War, Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Vampire Hunter D.

“Where did this come from? Who made this?”

The attached film by Alex Lee starts to answer those questions by stringing together a succession of fleeting moments that provide insight into this unique, vibrant place. The speed of the film will quickly shift from fast to slow and back again, pulling your focus into attention on a face, a movement or a landscape for a quick instant before moving on to find another, driving home the point that there’s plenty more to see. Alex’s choice for a backing track couldn’t have been more perfect; what better way to evoke another world then a collaboration between Flying Lotus and Thom Yorke?

This one’s a winner so gratitude is due to Aubrey for sending this one our way: it was a treat…thanks, Aubrey!

Zodiac Shit

Of all the suggestions that have been sent to the site over these past 10 months, this video is easily the most requested. So why has it taken so long for us to post it? Well we already kinda did. It was a prominent part of Animals and, since we could only ever find it in standard def, we felt as though it’d be a little redundant to feature it on it’s own.

Well, it turns out that the video’s director – the multi-talented lilfuch – recently uploaded it to his Vimeo account only three short months ago in full HD so I figured it was high time we gave this tasty bundle of electrons it’s own home on the site. Plus, as of tonight it’s only accrued a scant 1,400 views so let’s get this thing passed around. You’ve probably already seen it – odds are you’ve probably already sent it in – but believe me, Zodiac Shit always worth another viewing. Full screen and headphones (Flying Lotus!) friends; you know the drill. Enjoy!

Oh and be sure to check out lilfuch’s website. It’s chock-full with rad, colorful illustrations.

Vismic Rhythm

Y’all remember Steven Smith, right? (hint-hint) He was kind enough to write in and tell us about one of his other psychedelic-funky-fresh videos (this one’s set to some Flying Lotus) that’s conveniently embedded above. Why not check it out? If they haven’t already Tim & Eric should consider hiring Steve cause he’s got a firm grasp on bringing the bizarre. Oh and it looks like he’s into this datamoshing thing, too! Nice!

Steve: we love your stuff – thanks for writing in! Cheers!

MmmHmm

“It’s plain to see for you and me: love!
It cannot hide; just be who you are…”

More dopeness from reliable dopeness repository, Flying Lotus. Thundercat is up ons as well who, in addition to starring in the video, lent his skills on bass and vocals to the track. Visuals come courtesy of top-notch directing duo Campbell Hooper and Joel Kefali, a.k.a. Special Problems.

Also, I’ve been noticing lots of Ents dropping by. Hello, friends – make yourselves at home!

Gone Baby, Don’t Be Long

Why not get your mellow on via a choice cut from Erykah Badu’s latest album, ‘New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh’? The equally chill video was directed by Flying Lotus with post-production and modeling duties handled by a Tripatorium regular, beeple. It’s good times all around, folks.

Levels

Julian Briggs was kind enough to submit this Bilal video for our perusal.  It’s directed by super-talent Flying Lotus and Erykah Badu makes a cameo appearance which is rather nice. Enjoy!

Thanks, Julian!

Flying Lotus: Kill Your Co-Workers

Take a blippy, wire-framey, polygonal, beautiful (and slightly horrifying) stroll through pattern and grid world in this animation by Beeple.  Music by Flying Lotus.
