The Formula

subBlue (of Surface Detail fame) created this fractal-based music video for The Formula, a deep-tech outfit currently signed to London-based Ho Hum Records. The visuals are, as you’d expect, quite nice; they compliment the brooding, ethereal (and sometimes dark) synths rather well and the spike/glow accentuation on the 2-4 clap/snaps wins it valuable bonus points. All in all, it’s a delicious bizarre journey (especially when things start to evolve about halfway through). Enjoy!

The Known Universe

“The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world’s most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History.”

This video is a personal favorite of mine – I’ve watched it around nine or ten times – and don’t know why it didn’t occur to me sooner to put it up on the site. The Known Universe was directed by Carter Emmart with music by Suke Cerulo. Read more on amnh.org.

MmmHmm

“It’s plain to see for you and me: love!
It cannot hide; just be who you are…”

More dopeness from reliable dopeness repository, Flying Lotus. Thundercat is up ons as well who, in addition to starring in the video, lent his skills on bass and vocals to the track. Visuals come courtesy of top-notch directing duo Campbell Hooper and Joel Kefali, a.k.a. Special Problems.

Also, I’ve been noticing lots of Ents dropping by. Hello, friends – make yourselves at home!

Vital Signs

Midnight Juggernauts (music/artwork/concept) and Krozm (direction) collaboratively channeled Zbig Rybczynski to delicious effect in this brain-bending music video. It’s a treat folks so grab the headphones, dim the lights and full-screen this bitch. A big thanks goes to Zelda V for bringing this to our attention – cheers!

Northern Lights Post #3

While I’m aware that respondcreate already posted some great content relating to our most impressive of natural phenomenons, I thought I would go ahead and throw this video up on the site because, well, it’s a video, it’s in HD, and it’s stunning. Terje Sorgjerd captured one of the largest Aurora Borealis events in years as it occurred over national parks bordering Russia (so think remote, wild, and very very cold). He has some other great HD videos up, so check them all out, especially the one detailing the beauty of Norway and it’s landscape.

A Man Like Me

Ty sent us a bunch of great links last week that included a video from Lemon Jelly‘s DVD companion for their excellent album, ‘64–‘95. Though we loved the vid he originally submitted, we couldn’t find it in true HD so we decided to post this one – which we think is equally excellent – instead.

Try as we might, our Google-fu wasn’t powerful enough to track down the production credits so if you know who animated and directed this please drop us a line and we’ll update this post immediately. In the meantime, enjoy the colorful-vector-animated goodness. Thanks for hooking us up, Ty!

A Journey Through Fantasy

This ‘journey through a rotated negative Mandelbox’ by Madman is a smooth and chilled-out ride through some nicely rendered fractals and buoyed by the mellow strains of Funkadelic. Short but sweet – this one’s a keeper. Enjoy!

Café allongé

An overactive imagination and a raging sex drive can lead to some bizarre and inventive visions. Kudos to french director Maxime Paccalet and the talented folks at Kawanimation for putting this together. Cheers!

Chunkothy

Celyn Brazier directed and animated this video for Wagon Christ, one of the many aliases of Luke Francis Vibert and an arrow in the reliably excellent Ninja Tune quiver, with some help from his colleagues at Nexus Productions. Perfect for a late-night-chilled-out-full-screened-headphones-on session of reflection and relaxation. Cheers!

Argyle The Octopus

“Argyle The Octopus lived in the sea, his skin was different than you and me…”

Today’s timeless life lesson comes courtesy of the always-excellent, Yo Gabba Gabba. It was made for kids but I think it should be mandatory viewing for adults, too. Illustrations by Colt Bowden, animation by Keri Rainock and adorable narration via Ollie Schultz (‘udder’ ftw). A big thanks goes to Lori for posting a Yo Gabba Gabba video to our Facebook wall – we watched it, loved it and then saw this in the sidebar which is what led to this very post. Ahhhhh, internet.
