Warm Signal

“A short abstract movie dealing with nature and maritime creatures, metamorphosis and transformation – it connects art and science. Strong emphasis on sound, related to the idea of visual music.”

Silke Sieler, a German ‘motion graphics designer’, created this video as his diploma thesis for his studies in media design at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz. I sure hope he got top marks because it’s really, really good. Music by Apparat.

Eple

One of my all-time favorite music videos from one of my all-time favorite electronic acts, Röyksopp. Both the imagery and music is warm and comforting – it’s a feel good journey all the way around. Enjoy!

The Fungus Among Us

Thought you folks would enjoy some gorgeous HD goodness from Planet Earth about jungle fungus. The main star of the show is the uber-spooky cordyceps which seems as if it was invented for an episode of X-Files. Other than that it’s Sir David Attenborough doing his thing alongside beautifully captured time-lapse footage. You can’t go wrong, really.

Un tour de manège

Another stunner from french school of awesome, Gobélins. This tale about growing up, love and loss of innocence was lovingly crafted, completely without dialogue in a beautiful watercolor aesthetic, by De Nicolas Athane, Brice Chevillard, Alexis Liddell, Françoise Losito and Mai Nguyen with sound design by Vincent Hazard and music from Pablo Pico. It’s gorgeous, gorgeous, GORGEOUS stuff – CHEERS!

Pure

At first I though Samuel Pressman & Isaac Bauman‘s decision to make this video so flicker-y was a mistake (seriously, if you have epilepsy you might not want to watch this one) but the haunting, emotional sounds of Blackbird Blackbird kept me enthralled and, by the end, I was really digging the execution. So much so, in fact, that I immediately watched it two more times. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Battle of Branchage

seeper put together this architectural mapping piece for the Branchage Film Festival, held annually on the small island of Jersey, just off the coast of Normandy. There’s been a lot of great videos released in the mapping/projection space recently but I especially like this one because of how it alternates between showing what it was like to experience the show up close (complete with crowd reactions) as well as far away.

Crysteena

Upper First put this stunner together for Swedish electro outfit Mille by having Transfett project lots of colorful moving abstract goodness onto mannequins inside a darkened warehouse.  It starts off fun and just keeps getting better and better towards the end.  Dim the lights for this one. Enjoy!

Wanderland

The Tripatorium™ loves birds, music videos and electronic music so we’re quite thankful that Kristof Luyckx and Michèle Vanparys put this video together – it’s almost like they made it especially for us.  Plus, it’s about a finch who eats a seed and starts tripping out…bonus!  Top-flight tunes by Hermanos Inglesos with vocals from MeMe.

Jude Buffum paints pop-culture subjects with an 8-bit aesthetic, often times as if they existed in the 80s and had a video game tie-in. My personal favorite is his infinitely-awesome Big Lebowski series which you can order t-shirts of here.  Lots more on his website, blog and Flickr.
