Animals

A regular reader of the site, alex, was kind enough to email us the contents of a personal bookmarks folder he curated named ‘trippy shit man’.  This video was included in those links and, let me assure you, he categorized it correctly.  My favorite part is definitely the skiing ostriches.

Originally broadcast on January 1st, 2011 between 4:00 and 4:30am (on the reliably awesome [ adult swim ]) Animals is a strange visual journey indeed.  Ten points if you spot the Cyriak.  You’ll also find Blockhead‘s excellent video for their tune ‘The Music Scene’ in there which was posted here in full HD back in October.  So definitely check that out if you haven’t watched it yet.

Thanks again, alex!

Pixels

Pixels is a well-made animated short featuring classic video game characters wreaking havoc all over New York city. From start to finish this is nothing but 8-bit entertainment. I think Patrick Jean needs to get working on another trippy project, don’t you?

Floating

Hey! Look! It’s high-speed footage of floating paint! You’re welcome. :)

Directed by Johann Coors and Siggi Kuckstein; editing and compositing by MIchael Koch and Michael Lüben; top-flight music and sound design by Kian Djialili. Sehr gut, meine Freunde!

Enzymes

“This video was mostly shot live on a pyrotechnic stage…the only artificial visual effects are the face explosion, bubble transformation and smoke to body bag transformation.” If that doesn’t pique your interest for this, the latest from the Freelance Whales, I don’t know what else will.  Here, let me sell it a little more: it’s gorgeous.

MTV, at least as a source for good music videos, has been dead a long, long time but, who cares when ultra-talented production outfits like NEUE are making stuff like this and posting it online for free? Speaking of free, ‘Enzymes’ is available as complimentary download over at Green Label Sound. Enjoy!

Bat For Lashes

Robin and Julia from Treat Studios created these visuals to be projected behind Natasha Khan (a.k.a. Bat For Lashes) as she performed on stage with a string quartet.  I bet it was an amazing.

Parabola

We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment,
We are choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside
This holy reality, this holy experience.
Choosing to be here in this body.

I must admit that I haven’t listened much to Tool but I’m definitely digging this video for their tune Parabola.  It’s bizarre, trippy, psychedelic and rather mind-bending.  Plus it begins and ends in a very Alex Grey-esque manner which is always a plus in my book.

A big thanks goes to Julien Foster for sending it in!

Love & Theft

When GeigerCounter submitted this video for our perusal he said that it was, “a perfect blend of psychedelic animation and music, a must-see for any good trip.”  We agree!  It’s watchables like this that inspired the creation of The Tripatorium™ so keep ‘em coming!

Love & Theft was scripted, directed and animated by Andreas Hykade with Heiko Maile handling the music/sound.

Your hands should be Weapons of Love

Paul Roberts of No Hype Here did all the motion design/compositing in this animated PSA for an anti-smacking campaign. It was directed/illustrated by Carolina Melis and produced by Nexus Productions. Excellent stuff!

Mazes

Super-talented London animation house, Treat Studios, has loads of great stuff posted up on their Vimeo account.  The attached video stood out from the pack, however. It’s a teaser trailer they created to promote an Etsy labs sponsored show they were a part of in Berlin – it’s strange, colorful, bright, bizarre and just plain wonderful.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
