Release The Freq

Kim Holm serves up a stunner for UK dubstep outfit, Matta. I dig how he combined the dissimilar elements of nature documentary-type footage with abstract colorful shapes/gradients and hi-tech interface elements to create something completely unique. It compliments the track rather well, too. Cheers!

P.S. I’ve been inundated with lots of great submissions this week that I’m still sorting through – I’ll do my best to get to them as soon as I can. Thanks for sending me such rad stuff, friends!

Mazes (full)

Hey, remember that trailer for ‘Mazes’ I posted back in January?  Well, here’s the full business. Treat Studios FTW. The sound design is especially nice so if you’ve got a nice pair of headphones you might want to don them before clicking play. Enjoy!

Solar prominence

“When a rather large-sized (M 3.6 class) flare occurred near the edge of the Sun, it blew out a gorgeous, waving mass of erupting plasma that swirled and twisted over a 90-minute period… read more

The good folks at NASA captured this on February 24, 2011 and it helped reacquaint me with just how small and insignificant I am – a realization I always find is tremendously freeing. If you are as fascinated about this kind of stuff as I am you’ll probably enjoy reading more about solar prominences on wikipedia.

Move Your Feet

Fine purveyors in the art of the music video, Shynola, created this for the now disbanded, Junior Senior, back in 2003. Great tune + fun and happy pixels = good times. Enjoy!

Metamaterial

“Metamaterials are artificial materials engineered to have properties that may not be found in nature.”

Wow. This is just awesome. Dima Grubin is one talented dude. Dim the lights, click full screen and don the headphones for this one cause it’s an all around treat. See more on Dima’s Vimeo page.

The Drug

Polish designer, Mateusz Witkowski (a.k.a. The Ejnsof) created this video for a contest organized by Genero.tv and Röyksopp for the latter’s latest album, Senior. Mateusz’s work was selected as one of the winners and was broadcast, in London, on a big screen during a special BUG event to coincide with Senior’s release. We dig it’s simple, retro approach, candy-rainbow colors and love how well the visuals compliment the minimal/techy/synthy/dubby/emotive groove of ‘The Drug’. Cheers, Mateusz! We’re looking forward to what you make in the future.

P.S. I bet the source material for the owl sequence at 2:30 came from this video right hurr.

Ex•pan•sions

Rickster shot some footage with his iPhone on the train after leaving a Vimeo event in Amsterdam and then kaleidoscope‘d it for our viewing pleasure. The whole video is good but things get great at the 2:00 mark when the cars and graffiti start showing up. Enjoy!

Indigo

“A 60sec experiment with the color Indigo.”

Paul Octavious brings the mind-bending goodness backed by some Jon Brion. We wholeheartedly approve.

Spirit Quest Journey

Ryan Mauskopf brings the good times with this video for his music nom dé plume, Professor Soap. It’s silly, strange, colorful and is packed with a generous dose of friendly, fun alien life-forms. Enjoy!
